Multilingual Hiring Trends to Look For in 2025
Language and Skill
In 2024 there was a significantly lower demand for multilingual talent when compared to previous years. Many entry-level positions or multilingual jobs that require no additional skill besides fluency in a European language have either been replaced by bots or have moved to lower-cost centres overseas. However, as the year has progressed there has been an increase in multilingual jobs and we anticipate this improvement to continue into 2025, albeit, mostly for roles that require an additional skill (accountancy, sales, logistics, legal etc). As per usual, the languages that service the larger European markets such as Germany, France, the Netherlands, and Spain will dominate the demand.
Sales & CX
As the European market remains highly competitive, we expect to see an increased demand for sales and business development representatives who can identify business opportunities, drive sales, conduct market research, and engage with potential clients and partners in their native languages. A continued prioritisation of customer experience will also be in the spotlight to deliver excellent customer service and retain client bases. Positions such as account managers, client onboarding specialists, and experienced customer success experts with core European languages will be highly sought after. Linguistic ability but also cultural fluency is key, as companies look for individuals who can navigate both language barriers and cultural nuances.
Flexible Work Pattern
Hybrid working patterns have widened the talent pool for multilingual talent across Ireland. However, over 2024 we have seen an increase in “return to office” policies with many companies mandating 2-3 days in the office per week and some specifying the precise days required in the office e.g. Monday and Wednesdays. As multilingual positions usually sit within a team environment, these mandated “in-office days” drive internal team collaboration and company culture integration.
As most multilingual talent is based in large corporate environments with CRMs/ERPs and collaboration software this structure allows for strong productivity and learning, whilst also allowing flexible working for employees. We expect to see this trend continue throughout 2025.
