About Your New Job
As a Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for managing the financial and contractual aspects of residential construction projects. You will work closely with project managers, site teams, and subcontractors to ensure cost control, budget adherence, and efficient procurement processes. This role requires strong analytical skills, commercial awareness, and the ability to negotiate and manage contracts effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Cost Estimation & Budgeting – Preparing accurate cost estimates, budgets, and financial forecasts for residential projects.
- Procurement & Tendering – Managing the procurement process, evaluating supplier and subcontractor tenders, and negotiating contracts.
- Contract Administration – Handling contract agreements, variations, and ensuring compliance with contractual obligations.
- Cost Monitoring & Control – Tracking project expenditures, assessing cost variations, and implementing cost-saving measures.
- Valuations & Progress Payments – Preparing valuations, interim payments, and final accounts in coordination with clients and contractors.
- Risk Assessment & Dispute Resolution – Identifying potential financial risks and assisting in resolving disputes and claims.
- Collaboration & Reporting – Liaising with project teams, clients, and senior management while preparing financial reports and updates.
What Skills & Requirements You Need
- Experience: 3+ years of experience in quantity surveying, preferably in residential construction.
- Qualifications: Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, or a related field. Membership of SCSI or RICS is an advantage.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of construction contracts (e.g., RIAI, JCT), cost management, and procurement processes.
- Skills: Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Excel, CostX, or other estimating software.
